Situated at the mouth of the Tana Delta on
the Indian Ocean, Tana Delta Camp offers a
unique combination of riverine delta, glorious
wide sandy beaches, and seascapes. Shaded
by Doum palms, baobabs, and Tamarind trees
and situated on the white sand dune coast,
Tana Delta Camp is reached by boat - downstream
past hippos and crocodiles.Tana Delta Camp
is a desert island that has to be seen to
believed.
The dining pagoda, perched
atop a huge sand dune, provides panoramic
views over the ocean and the delta where one
enjoys delicious seafood meals. Freshly caught
crab, and fish cooked in a traditional coconut
milk are complimented by fresh fruit and ice
cold drinks.There is also a unique dunetop,
freshwater swimming pool which has to seen
to be believed.
Early morning game walks
among the vast sand dunes along the coast
may allow sightings of the Tana River bushbuck,
as well as lion and buffalo
One may canoe through the
many channels of the delta and its varying
vegetation to view game and spectacular bird-life:
numerous waders, herons, storks, kingfishers
and bee-eaters. Enjoy a mudbath before lunch,
perhaps, with the afternoons free for surfing
and exploring twenty miles of uninhabited
beach.
Accommodations: Four Dune
Cottages each with a double-bed ,ensuite bathrooms
with flush toilets, hot and cold running water
for showers or baths.Each cottage has breathtaking
individual views overlooking the estuary,
ocean or forest whichever takes your fancy
Special Activities: Guided
river trips (governed by tides) and game walks.
Optional activities also include: deep sea
fishing, snorkeling, and water skiing.Cultural
visits to Pokomo (the riverine Bantu people)
and Orma (the Galla cattle keepers) villages
near the camp.
